August 15-18, 2019 was the ninth annual Drive 4 Corners BMW event. It was a twist on previous event s the event schedule consisted of a driving tour with a revolving destination each evening. Participants drove hundreds of miles for a summer getaway in the mountains of Colorado. Starting in Grand Junction, Colorado the Drive 4 Corners 2019 Rocky Mountain driving tour began with a social and driving event at Grand Junction Motor speedway. Participants were able to take to a 1 mile paved road course in bouts of 15 go-carts. There were multiple driving sessions in the sweltering heat and battles galore as driver’s jockeyed for position. Those who were interested even took their vehicles on the course to drive the tight but wide road course at an event that is not available to the public.

That evening, more participants gathered at Ristorante Pantuso for a social dinner to collect themselves before the group drive the next morning. Event participants drove from AZ, CA, NM, OK, IL, TX, some over 1000 miles one way to be able to travel on a number of Colorado Scenic byways off the beaten path of the interstate.

The next morning drivers gathered near Palisade, Colorado for the climb up the Grand Mesa, a route that few had driven before. The group continued over the mesa and met up with the confines of the Black Canyon of the West Elk Loop scenic byway. An ice cream social that evening was a great way to unwind from a spirited day of driving. The group gathered for the trip down past Lake City, Colorado and stopped at Freemon’s General store for some burgers and shakes.

The Saturday evening BBQ in South Fork, CO featured great food and plenty of prizes and a unique giveaway for the sizable 1000 mile club. The Sunday brunch and short drive to a gathering at Wolf Creek Pass was also a great addition for those remaining together. The trek down south in New Mexico was a blast up and over Cumbres Pass with a small group that made haste in their BMW’s. Overall the 50 cars attending make an enjoyable road trip and mountain excursion.
